2020 Miami football predictions on the HG
By Jake Wimberly
What’s to like:
The team has talent – the Miami Hurricanes rank 17th on our overall three-year roster talent, and they are just outside our realistic college football playoff roster talent line, meaning they are on the verge of really good talent.
Also, Manny Diaz again was able to lure a transfer quarterback to south Florida; this time it’s Houston transfer D’Eriq King.
King was our top G5 quarterback two years ago and rightfully so. King tossed 36 touchdowns to only 6 interceptions, and rushed for another 14 scores. If King can find the game, he had back in 2018, he offers Miami a major threat at the quarterback position.
What’s not to like:
The way this team looks on the field. This team lost five games by 10 points or less a year ago, and were double digit favorites in four of them – and lost every one of them.
You have to question this team’s mental toughness, and not just last year. The year before, the Caine’s took on LSU in the 2018 opener and looked lethargic.
On offense this club only converted 27 percent of their third downs and head a red zone scoring rate of only 72 percent.
This team has to find an identity on both sides of the ball.

FINAL THOUGHTS:
It’s hard to believe Miami has never won the ACC, but here we are. The Hurricane’s have been in the league now 16 years and not one title.
Miami is one of those teams that we are awaiting a return to dominance. Obviously, times have changed and Miami will never be who they were “back in the day”. But there is no reason this team cannot compete year in and year out for the ACC.
This is a pivotal year for Manny Diaz and he needs to show mass improvement or he could be out by the end of the year.
We have Miami 9-3 and headed to a nice bowl game.
Projected Hour Glass W/L record: Games in red denote games that could be a one possession game or even a different outcome than projection.
